This species requires fertile, humus soil that retains water well. Celeriac is grown in heavier soil stores better thanks to a good supply of water and nutrients. The optimal pH values of mineral soils are 6.5-7.5. Celeriac is sensitive to boron and molybdenum deficiencies. If soil analysis has not been performed, then the number of mineral fertilizers per hectare regardless of organic fertilization should be 100-200 kg N, 80-100 kg P₂O₅, 200-250 kg K₂O.
