The best for cucumbers are sandy-loamy soils rich in humus, loess, chernozems and lighter alluvial soils. On the other hand, heavy, drainable and sandy soils poor in humus are unsuitable. The optimum pH for a ground cucumber is 6.0-7.2. Cucumbers are sensitive to insufficient potassium supply in plants. If soil analysis has not been performed, the number of mineral fertilizers per hectare at the sites in the first year after applying manure should be: 100-150 kg N, 80-100 kg P2O5, 250 kg K2O.
